After you split the clip, drag the clip down to the Timeline or Story Board then Publish Movie (which will turn your split clip into a playable file). You can save the clip this way and use it later on or like the first post, save project... That way you'll save the split clips for later use (can't play as movie clip though).How to save after splitting in movie maker?
If you split it, and then save the project the split clip will remain split.
