What can i treat a wooden viv with to protect it from splitting the wood???

I've got a solid pine viv, which at the mo is untreated. I had another one which i left untreated and found the wood started to split under the heat. Is there a varnish or oil which is safe to use. I've 2 viv's one with corn snakes and the other bearded dragonsWhat can i treat a wooden viv with to protect it from splitting the wood???
First, get your reptiles out of the wooden viv. Glass or acrylic is what they should be in. Would is hard to clean, can host diseases, and can host mites. Glass beats all of these. Don't worry about the wood splitting again. It was probably a defect in the wood, not that you neded to cure it. If you're using a UTH (under tank heater) than make sure there is atleast a 1/2 inch of clearence from the viv and the surface it is set on. This makes it so that not too much heat builds up, which could warp the wood.

Good Luck With the Corn and Beardie!
