Does splitting recipes in half work?

I vaguely remember hearing that this won't work:

If you have a recipie that makes 10 oz. of something, and you want to make 5 oz., you just divide everything by 2.

Will it work?Does splitting recipes in half work?
It's math. It works for me.

Some info:

It works for halves but any other portion will quickly get you in the weeds

SOP of how to convert any recipe:

Express everything in ounces

Convert fractions to decimals

Multiply # of portions by the size of the portions expressed in ounces.

Do this for the recipe you have -the old yield

Do this for the recipe you will have-the new yield

New yield/ Old yield= a conversion factor

Conversion factor is then multiplied by every single ingredient in the old yield to produce the proper quantities of ingredients in the new yield.

And that is how it's supposed to be done
YES, it will work - be sure to accurately calculate half of ALL of the original ingredients.
Yes Though You May Have A Problem If The 10oz Only has 1EGG.
yes it works. take and use only half of the recipie ask for.
Usually, but the cooking time may be different , particularly in baking. If the original recipe calls for one egg beat it until the white and yolk are mixed, measure what you have and cut that in half.
Yeah, I did it all the time in my cooking classes at school. Sometimes dividing not only in half but in thirds and fourths. And sometimes we had to double a recipe. It works, you just need to know your math!
You can halve most recipes quite easily, except when you get stuck with that one egg! For dinner type recipes its fairly easy but when baking you have to be careful...some things just don't turn out as well halved or doubled.
I see no reason why it wouldn't.. if u want to double a recipe it works so why shouldnt it work if u divide it?
