How do I keep dry beans from splitting when I cook them?

I had a pound of dry red kidney beans and soaked them overnight in 8 cups of water (after washing them). They were probably soaking for about 18 - 20 hours (maybe too long?). I then rinsed them again and put them back in the pot with another 8 cups of water to boil. I simmered them for about 1.5 hours.

They came out perfectly fine except for the splitting. How do I avoid that? How do I keep dry beans from splitting when I cook them?
Lemme ask the Hub...everyone know's I'm a disaster in the kitchen! Although I did make some good chicken enchiladas the other day....How do I keep dry beans from splitting when I cook them?
